The objective of the present investigation was to characterize the agroforestry systems of traditional farms in the 24 de Mayo neighborhood of the Buena Fe canton, Los Ríos province. By means of the biophysical characterization, it was possible to know the main uses that are given to the soil in this area. The most important crops for farmers are: CCN51 cocoa, banana and fruit trees. In addition, four types of agroforestry systems were determined which were: live fences, family gardens, trees associated with perennial crops and a special agroforestry system. For the analysis of floristic diversity, abundance, frequency, dominance and Importance Value Index parameters were used, as well as the Shannon and Simpson diversity indices. Through the floristic characterization carried out in the study area, a total of 665 individuals with a DBH ≥ 10 cm, 70 species and 33 families were registered. The Cordia alliodora (Ruiz & Pav.) Oken species, stood out being the most abundant with 80 individuals, the most abundant family was Rutaceae. Among the most frequent species is Pholidostachys dactyloides H.E. Moore and Spondias dulcis Parkinson. The Importance Value Index (IVI) indicated the species Cordia alliodora (Ruiz & Pav.) Oken with 164.28%, as the most ecologically important in the studied area. Key words: systems Agroforestry, characterization, floristic diversity, species.
