Agroforestry systems provide benefits such as protection from soil erosion, help retain or conserve groundwater, improve soil fertility, among other contributions. The study of this combination between trees and crops helps to understand what is the type of management, density and species that best adapts to these systems. Therefore, the purpose of this research was to know the growth of timber species in agroforestry systems associated with cocoa in the Quevedo canton, specifically with the species Tectona grandis L.F. and Triplaris cumingiana Fisch. & C.A. Mey, especially since the wood of the two studied species present a great outlet in the national and international market. The present study was carried out in the experimental farm "La Represa" in an agroforestry system with cocoa and the two forest species mentioned, established in 2008, teak and fernan sánchez were planted at a distance of 9 x 9 m and cocoa at 3 x 3 m, in a completely randomized design (DCA) with two treatments (T1= T. grandis + T. cacao and T2= T. cumingiana + T. cacao) with nine repetitions and 18 experimental units in a net area of 7776 m2. In each experimental unit, the DAP and total height and commercial height of the trees were measured. The IMA of each of the study variables was calculated and the statistical differences were determined with the T test at 5% significance. It is concluded that T. grandis, despite presenting a higher mortality rate, exceeds T. cumingiana in AMI (Mean Annual Increment) at 14 years.
